Do I Need a Google Account to Use ScanCardPro?

Short answer: yes. ScanCardPro uses your Google account to sign you in and to store your scanned contacts in Google Sheets. If you have a Gmail address or any Google Workspace account, you are ready to go. Here is why we built it this way and what it means for you.

Why a Google account is required

ScanCardPro does not lock your contacts inside our app. Instead, every card you scan is written to a Google Sheet that lives in your Google Drive. That design has a big upside: you always own your data, and you can open, edit, or export it even without us. To create and update that sheet on your behalf, we need you to sign in with Google and approve access to Google Sheets.

What you own

• The spreadsheet is created in your Google Drive, under your account.
• You can view and edit it any time, with or without ScanCardPro.
• If you ever stop using ScanCardPro, your contacts remain in your sheet.

What ScanCardPro can and cannot access

We only work with the spreadsheet we create for your contacts. ScanCardPro does not read your email, your other Drive files, or your calendar. The Google permission you grant is scoped to Sheets so we can keep your contact list in sync — nothing more.

Personal Gmail vs. Google Workspace

Both work exactly the same way. A free personal Gmail account is perfectly fine. If your company uses Google Workspace, ScanCardPro will store your contact sheet in your work Drive instead — handy if you want contacts kept inside your organization.

What if my company uses Microsoft, not Google?

You can still use ScanCardPro — you just need a Google account for the sheet that stores your contacts. Many people create a free Gmail address specifically for this. Once your contacts are in Google Sheets, exporting them to Outlook, a CRM, or Mailchimp is straightforward.

Is my data safe?

Your contacts sit in your own Google account, protected by Google's security and your own login. ScanCardPro connects over an encrypted connection and only accesses the contact sheet. You can review or revoke ScanCardPro's access at any time from your Google account's security settings.
